MOBILE APP

MOBILE APP

Helping contractors offer financing, track clients in the financing pipeline, and close deals right from the job site.

Contractors who sign-up with Acorn Finance use a secure web portal to track clients financing their home improvement projects, but the platform is data-heavy and hard to digest, especially away from a desk. The VP of Experience tasked me with designing and building an end-to-end prototype, using Claude Design, of a mobile app that puts financing in the contractor's hands on-site. The app lets contractors offer financing to clients on the spot, monitor every client's status in the financing pipeline at a glance, and access resources and tools to help sell financing. The result is a focused, mobile-first experience that shifts the portal's dense data into something contractors can act on in the middle of a conversation with a homeowner.

DASHBOARD

The dashboard is the heart of the app, and it's designed to evolve with the contractor. Rather than showing a single static view, the interface adapts across eight states based on how active and successful a contractor is at offering financing. A brand-new contractor sees an empty linear progress bar tracking loan application invitations that encourages them to send their first loan application. Once that first invitation goes out, the progress bar toward 10 invitations gives them a visual sense of momentum. As they get the hang of it, they begin to see the outcomes of the clients they've invited moving through the financing pipeline.

When a contractor reaches the 10-invitation milestone, the linear progress bar transforms into a divided bar that shows how those clients are doing (applied, offered, or no offer). At their first funded client, a congratulatory modal appears, the KPI at the top of the screen displays a dollar amount for the first time, and the divided bar becomes a funnel diagram built from the same linear bars and color scheme, so the change feels seamless rather than jarring. The dashboard continues to grow through the ongoing state and all the way to an at-scale state for contractors who have sent over 10,000 invitations and accumulated significant funded volume. Throughout every state, a floating green button in the bottom right corner keeps the loan application invitation form one tap away.

CLIENTS TAB

The Clients tab gives contractors a complete view of their financing pipeline at a glance. Clients appear in one list sorted by most recent activity, with color-coded status tags, and contractors can filter by status (invited, offered, funded, expired, no offer), narrow by time span, or search by name or email. Tapping a client opens a profile with their application details and a status banner explaining what the status means and what to do next, while call, text, and email icons next to the client's name make follow-up a single tap.

RESOURCES TAB

The Resources tab gives contractors three tools for the conversation with a homeowner: a Personal Loan Calculator, a Compare Lenders list, and an Approval Simulator. The calculator shifts the discussion from total project cost to affordable monthly payments, updating instantly as the contractor adjusts amount, rate, and term. Compare Lenders lets them filter and sort lenders' rates and terms side by side, so money is less likely to be the reason a job falls through. A contractor who can speak knowledgeably about financing options stands out from one who just hands over a quote, and that builds trust.

HELP TAB

The Help tab gives contractors scripts, checklists, and prompts to close more jobs, so they know exactly what to say and when to introduce financing without awkwardness. Guides cover starting the conversation, handling objections (each pairing what the client is really saying with a ready-to-use, non-pushy response), and compliance basics on what not to say. Contractors can also learn everything about the app, from sending a loan app invitation to understanding each pipeline status, with FAQs and the support team available when they need more.
